We are very please to announce that we have been granted Salsa Approval.

Approved suppliers demonstrate that they operate to standards that are recognised and accepted across the industry and exceed the minimum standards expected by enforcement authorities.

UK Hemp Ltd, based in Wiltshire, is an award-winning hemp processing centre that is dedicated to working with British farmers. All hemp seed (Cannabis Sativa) is sourced from UK farms, which grow varieties chosen for taste, yield and the UK climate, without the use of any pesticides or herbicides. Harvest is in late summer, when the seed is cleaned and dried on the farms and then brought to the mill in Warminster. All the hemp seeds are processed mechanically, which means that there are no chemicals or solvents used. Hemp seed is cold pressed for oil and the seed cake is then milled to make protein 50, protein 40 and Fibre plus. In this way there is very little waste – even the debris that is filtered out of the oil is sold as a fishing product. The company has won prestigious awards, most recently in September 2024, and at the Nourish Awards won a special award: The Best Ethical Brand 2022, and the Cold-pressed Hemp Seed Oil achieved a silver in the cupboard essentials category.

What is SALSA?

Developed by experienced food safety experts, SALSA is a robust and effective food safety certification scheme which is appropriate for smaller food producers and suppliers.

SALSA approval is only granted to suppliers who are able to demonstrate to an auditor that they are able to produce and supply safe and legal food and are committed to continually meeting the requirements of the SALSA standard.

SALSA is a non-profit making joint venture by The Food & Drink Federation, NFU and UK Hospitality, three of the main trade associations representing the UK Food Chain. The Institute of Food Science and Technology (IFST) monitors the delivery of the Scheme on behalf of the owner, SALSA Scheme Ltd, which is made up of representatives from these three trade associations. IFST also runs the professional register that verifies the competence of SALSA Auditors.
